Tooru is fifteen, after an argument turned fight turned one-sided drunken brawl with his father, when he decides Iwa-chan is his best friend, black spikes and green eyes and scales and all.
An impressively annoying young man starts frequenting Hajime's flower shop. It goes downhill from there.

"Don't you dare say shit like that to my face ever again, Hajime." Tooru glares into his eyes, their lips a bare centimetre apart. "If I have to hear that again, I'll stuff you in an exosuit and tie you to the panatomic rudder. You can float along behind us. And then you can tell me our crew could ever do without you."

Hajime smooths a hand over the grainy newspaper photo, gaze skimming the exuberant faces of Japan’s new cycle of athletes for the Olympics volleyball team. His smile is joint parts bitter and proud as his finger traces his best friend’s face.

"Just take them, would you? You weren't so stubborn about it last year."
"Last year, things were different."
Chocolates, and a crisp February evening.

"You had an emotional breakdown in a McDonalds drive-through."
"Mmm."
"And proposed to me."
"Shhh."
"In a McDonalds drive-through, Hiro."
Takahiro huffs out a nervous laugh, keeping his eyes closed. "You love it," he repeats, nuzzling closer.

On a summer night rich with realisation, Ukai Keishin makes a promise to himself.
"I spend too much time alone," Kei mutters to himself, playing with a twig by his foot.
“Hoot,” agrees an owl.
Kei shoots it a withering look.

And that, simply put, is how Tanaka Ryūnosuke ends up getting dragged along to a first year gōkon as courtesy of Hinata Shōyō.
More or less.

"Have you checked your text messages recently, Tobio-chan?" Without warning, Oikawa hops off the stool and stalks towards him, wicked grin widening.
Uh oh.

“Everything okay?”
“Yeah.” Tooru nods swiftly, trying to keep his voice from going too high like it always does when he’s outright lying.

Sometimes you look at your best friend and catch yourself thinking you wouldn't mind sleeping with them. Shit happens. You roll with it.

Iwa-chan is giddy with the promise of a sticky summer afternoon and a pliant lover only too willing to lick the sweat off, and Tooru adores him for it.

Date: 2022-01-29 06:25 pm (UTC)I created a podfic of only fools do what I do for the SASO 2016 remix challenge (fill), based on your permission statement for SASO 2016, which was the only one I managed to get around to crossposting to ao3. After being away from fandom for a while, I’m slowly trying to organize all my stuff again and realized that you’d orphaned the fic, and also that I can’t seem to find record of having asked out about crossposting to Ao3 (even though I wouldn’t have crossposted without permission, so I’m not sure if it’s lost in all the SASO comments, or Twitter DMs somewhere). Either way, would you prefer that I take the podfic down? Or should I remove your pseudonym from it and mark the author as anonymous? Or should I leave it as is? And if you’re okay with having it up on Ao3, could I get explicit permission again, especially since the work is now orphaned?
I’m sorry again about the random comment, and wasn’t sure about the best way to contact you.
